There is mounting evidence that microwave radiation from wireless technologies is making us sick in Marin County. Marin is ranked among the top places in the US for four rapidly growing cancers: breast, skin, bladder and prostate cancer. It is also ranks in the top quartile for another dozen ‘new-age’ illnesses and health issues, which have exploded in the past fifteen years. Marin County also is among the national leaders in the concentration of microwave signals. In fact, more than 90% of the county residents, who live within five miles of route 101, are exposed to burgeoning levels of radiation from hundreds of microwave transmitters, which are continuously penetrating our neighborhoods, parks and shopping areas. These microwaves are tiny radio waves, most of which are transmitted invisibly by cellular base stations, AM-FM radio stations, emergency broadcast (police/ fire), radar, WiFi, WiMax, satellite and other wireless communications devices. While the intensity of this microwave radiation has exploded quietly over the past several years, Marin residents presently have virtually no control over these fixed sources.

Diseases: Scientists have shown causal relationships with leukemia, lymphoma, breast cancer, testicular cancer, melanoma, Alzheimer’s, autism, depression, Attention Deficit Disorder, birth defects, miscarriages, Chronic Fatigue, MLS, ALS and others.

Bioeffects: RF-induced biological effects cited in the scientific literature include calcium efflux, suppression of endocrine function (reduced melatonin, serotonin production), permeating the blood brain barrier (BBB), chromosome/ DNA damage, significant rise in triglycerides, increased miscarriage and a range of birth defects.

Electro Sensitivity and symptoms: at least 18 studies have concluded that approximately 3% of the population is electromagnetically sensitive. One study pegs Marin County at reporting a 7% electro-sensitive rate and symptoms ranging from memory loss, confusion, lack of concentration, headaches and skin rashes to sleep disturbances, agitation, unexplained depression and joint pain.

EPA Cancer Warning Mysteriously Withdrawn: The evidence of the link has been available since 1990 when the EPA issued a draft resolution classifying electromagnetic fields (EMF) and radio frequency (RF) fields as Class B-1 probable carcinogens. Meanwhile Marin residents have been adopting personal wireless technologies at an alarming rate. Cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDA’s), blue tooth headsets, baby monitors, security alarms, wireless thermometers, microwave ovens, wireless networks, cordless phones, pest-alarms and wireless computers are increasingly crowding the airwaves of the average household.

Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that just since 2000 the RF density (intensity of microwave/ RF fields) in households in Marin County has risen between 50-100 times. And as new personal communications systems (PCS) technologies have been adopted, many of these transmitters are moving dangerously closer to us. Marin residents are now being exposed to higher levels of microwave radiation from the installation of hundreds of camouflaged cellular base stations throughout the county. There are now more than one-hundred well-disguised transmitters posted along the 101 corridor from the Waldo Tunnel to Sonoma County with most positioned less than 100 yards from the roadway. In San Anselmo at the "Hub" there are twelve powerful and well disguised cell towers that are within 50 yards of pedestrians and traffic. "Can you hear me now?" In addition to scores of new microwave sources, the county continues to be exposed to more than 400 powerful microwave transmitters mounted atop nearby Mt. Tamalpais, which flood the county with microwaves from a range of sources, including airport traffic control (SF and Oakland), military communications, NSA, FBI, Park Service, as well as hundreds of other ‘unspecified’ sources, including every major cellular and wireless carrier.
